Lulu was bustling around the kitchen, preparing various ingredients, while she waited for Liir to show up.

There was a pot of orange spice cocoa on the stove, simmering away, for when he got there. The aroma was wafting through the apartment, and probably out into the hallway, as well.

Jean-Paul came out of his room after hearing the knock on the door.

Oooh, hello attractive visitor.

"Bonjour!" he said cheerily.

"Bonjour! I'm Mike Cannon, the new neighbor in #3," said Mike, offering his hand.

"Jean-Paul Beaubier," Jean-Paul said, shaking his hand. "You must be very new indeed, I think I would remember having seen you in the halls."

"I just moved in last week," replied Mike. "It's good to meet you, Jean-Paul."

"Ah, yes, that would explain it. Are you a teacher, or do you work in the town?"

"New teacher," said Mike. "I'm teaching a class on computers for students unfamiliar with modern technology."

"You do know some of them do not know what light switches are, yes?" Jean-Paul asked.

Mike looked surprised. "No kidding?" he asked. "Here I am wondering if I'm making my classes too easy."

"Some of them are from worlds with magic instead of technology," Jean-Paul explained. "And some of them are from, I do not know, the Stone Age. Of course, then there are the ones to whom our technology is painfully primitive, but I suspect you will not be encountering them in your class."

"Yeah, I talked to my students last week to see what they needed to focus on, and I was amazed by some of the things they told me," said Mike. "One kid told me he was from somewhere in the mid-1980's and just needed to catch up with modern technology, but he figured he'd make a killing when he went back."

"Or he might unravel time," Jean-Paul said. "Time travel can be a real pain."

"That definitely must be a concern, but I'm afraid I know very little about time travel," said Mike.

"I don't have much personal experience with it," Jean-Paul admitted, "but in my previous profession one could not help but run up against it now and again."

"Must have been a very interesting job," commented Mike.

"I was a government-sponsored superhero, so, yes. Very," Jean-Paul said. "And now I teach high school math."
